Image Journal

A few pictures, chosen slowly. Nicole Junkermann keeps the image journal as a calm gallery of the moments that words alone could not hold.

Some things are easier to keep as a picture than a paragraph.

Not every moment wants to be written about. A street at dawn, a table laid for reading, a quiet gallery wall: these belong to the image journal, where a small set of pictures is allowed to speak for itself.

The aim is restraint rather than abundance. A handful of considered images says more than a stream of them, and choosing slowly is part of the pleasure. Each picture here earns its place by being worth a second, unhurried look.

Set together, the pictures tell the same story as the rest of the journal: reading, travelling, walking through cities, and paying attention to the ordinary light of a day.

A picture worth keeping

A good photograph, like a good sentence, is mostly about what is left out. The image journal favours calm framing, soft light and the kind of scene you would happily look at for a while without needing it explained.
