The Notebook

The place where everything else begins. Nicole Junkermann keeps the notebook for the half-formed thoughts that later become a reading note or a travel page.

A notebook is a quiet conversation you have with yourself.

Most of what is written here will never go any further, and that is the point. A line about the weather, a word to look up, a sentence overheard on a train. The notebook is a low-pressure place where ideas can be untidy and unfinished without anyone minding.

Keeping notes by hand slows the mind to the speed of the pen. Thoughts that seemed urgent become smaller and clearer once they are written down, and the act of choosing a few words is often enough to understand what one actually thinks.

Now and then a fragment grows into something larger and moves to the reading room or the travel journal. The rest stays here, which is exactly where it belongs.

Small entries, kept honestly

There is no system to defend and no streak to keep. Some weeks fill several pages and others barely one. The only rule is to write things down before they slip away, and to be kind about the handwriting.
